Non-Invasive Core Body Temperature Challenge Posted to LINC

CTTSOBy Adam Tarsi, Chief of Staff, Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office

The Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO) has issued a new challenge to the Laboratory Innovation Crowdsourcing (LINC) portal. This challenge is to come up with a system to measure core body temperature with a resolution of 0.1C. All current techniques for the measurement of core body temperature are either invasive (rectal or esophageal temperature), or are not suitable for implementation in an operational environment (radio pill). There is no correlation between skin and core temperatures, therefore the current status monitors are not suitable for this need. We’d appreciate if you could give it a read and let us know your comments and solutions.

The LINC portal is a conduit for filed operators to submit their operational challenges to solvers in the federal government.  LINC operates just like other open innovation or crowdsourcing models and targets those who already exhibit a passion for supporting the United States and its citizens.  CTTSO will take the gaps prioritized by our customers and pose them in the form of challenges to our government labs.
